Cytokinins and auxins
Cytokinins are involved in many plant processes, including cell division and shoot and root morphogenesis. They are known to regulate axillary bud growth and apical dominance. According to the "direct inhibition hypothesis", these effects result from the ratio of cytokinin to auxin. This theory states that auxin from apical buds travels down shoots to inhibit axillary bud growth. This promotes shoot growth, and restricts lateral branching. Cytokinin moves from the roots into the … WebNumerous factors affect the performance of PGRs including how well the chemical is absorbed by the plant. Auxins, gibberellins, cytokinin, abscisic acid and compounds affecting the ethylene status are the five groups under which the plant growth regulators are segregated. PGRs function as chemical messengers for intercellular communication.

WebFeb 23, 2009 · Auxin and cytokinin have contrasting roles in root meristems. Auxin is required for meristem cell division: application of exogenous auxin increases root meristem size, for example, whereas cytokinin reduces it [2, 3].Basipetal transport and lateral distribution of auxin are required for stem-cell replenishment, as plants carrying … WebNov 29, 2012 · Here we highlight the auxin-cytokinin antagonism that occurs as part of a complex hormonal interplay and exerts a critical influence on the core SA-JA/ET plant …
WebCytokinin generally induces the shoot proliferation and produces flower buds, and possesses the property of apical dominance, with auxiliary bud growth. They also promote leaf senescence, whereas auxins produce a root system. In general, cytokinins are of three types such as kinetin, zeatin, and 6 benzyl amino purine (BAP).
